Allan Brown, som har skrevet boka om den fantastiske Crooked Soley-formasjonen fra 2002, har uttalt følgende:
"The best crop circle material comes from those who engage with the phenomenon in an open poetic, imaginative way.
As soon as you try to get to the bottom of the phenomenon in any rational, analytic way, you must reach the conclusion that most of the formations are probably man-made, and it is unlikely that you'll ever in any tangible sense work out which are which in any given season.
In fact as soon as the notion of who's making them gains the upper hand, the poetic quality of the work will begin to fall away."
Dette utsagnet er svært viktig, synes jeg. Mange som har studert fenomenet, har gått i den fella at de bruker all sin energi på å avgjøre hvorvidt hver enkelt sirkel er menneskelagd eller ikke. Dermed lukker de seg lett for mange spennende erfaringer av annen art som sirklene inviterer oss til å utforske.
